WB assert supremacy in Odisha CS tourney

West Bengal players asserted supremacy in the AITA-OTPPA Championship Series Tennis Tournament, winning three titles outright and sharing one here at KIIT International School today. Kolkata-based Yubrani Banerjee overcame stiff fight and a self-inflicted injury to clinch a title double in under-16 girls` category.
A protege of former Davis Cupper Enrico Piperno, Yubrani completed the double by winning the singles title with win over local favourite Rutuparna Choudhury. The duo had claimed the doubles title earlier yesterday, defeating Odisha-Andhra Pradesh combination of Kalaga Bhargavi and Bhavya Ramineni 4-6, 6-2, 10-5.
After taking the first set comfortably, top seed Yubrani suffered a setback early in the second set as she wounded her left knee with her own racket. ``I hit my knee while completing a serve and opened a cut. The bleeding and the pain hampered my movement and I lost the second set,`` she said after the match.
